Alisha Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 Hello, We'd like to start using the slideshow/wallboard feature and I was wondering if we can assign a role to a basic user so they view it? We'd rather not use our own user logins for security reasons. Many thanks, Alisha
Steve Giller Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 Hi @Alisha Can you give us an idea of what you're wanting to achieve? Wallboard displays are designed for just that - displaying on a wallboard, which we wouldn't expect a Basic User to be logging in to.
Alisha Posted October 17, 2019 Author Posted October 17, 2019 Hi @Steve Giller, We'd like a slideshow displayed in the Service Desk without all the behind the scenes admin functions. Would it be possible to have a link to the slideshow on this page (below)? Many thanks, Alisha
Alisha Posted October 28, 2019 Author Posted October 28, 2019 Hi @Steve Giller @James Ainsworth @Bob Dickinson, Is there a timeout on the slideshow? We are using the link: https://admin.hornbill.com/instancename/app/com.hornbill.servicemanager/analytics/slideshows/3/play/ We are receiving the below error every so often but we are only using it on one screen and not sharing it with multiple computers. Many thanks, Alisha
Alisha Posted December 6, 2019 Author Posted December 6, 2019 Hi @Steve Giller, We have a workaround for the slideshow timing out. However, I was wondering if it would be possible to have a link/icon to dashboards/slideshows within the menu as shown above please? Many thanks, Alisha
Carl Tovey Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 Why can't there just be a default login ID that can only show the dashboards and slideshows?
Gareth Cantrell Posted September 19, 2023 Posted September 19, 2023 This would've been handy for a use-case we currently have. We have a requirement to display some counters to all users and having a slideshow which can be embedded in the portal in an External Frame would've been a nice simple solution, however Basic Users just get a big Harry Hornbill page not found error in the widget
Osman Posted May 9, 2024 Posted May 9, 2024 Morning All, Has there been any further movement on the possibility of allowing a basic user to access a slideshow? Simple use case, Service Desk area has a wall board that display stats, we are using a domain service account to log on, seems a waste of a license to use an Agent User account to achieve this as well as a bit of a security risk to have a constantly on and signed in device to have Agent access. Thanks Osman 1
Steve Giller Posted May 9, 2024 Posted May 9, 2024 I'm not aware of any intention to make changes in this area.
Osman Posted May 9, 2024 Posted May 9, 2024 Hi Steve, Thank you for the response. On the basis of your response, what would you recommend that users of HornBill do to display statistical data on wall boards in their Service Desk areas? Thanks Osman
Steve Giller Posted May 9, 2024 Posted May 9, 2024 I'd suggest setting up a Wallboard User with only the Roles needed to display the dashboards.
Osman Posted May 9, 2024 Posted May 9, 2024 Hi Steve, That's what I have set up, just seems such a waste to assign an Agent license just for viewing a slideshow via a service account. Thanks Osman
Osman Posted May 9, 2024 Posted May 9, 2024 Afternoon All, A bit of extra help needed. When trying to run the SlideShow using the Service Account, we get the following error: This is certainly a permissions issue, so what I wanted to do was create a custom Role purely for being able to play the SlideShow. I have tried a few variations out, but the only way to consistently get it to work is by assigning it an administrative role. Any guidance as to what the settings should be as, again, we need to restrict this account as much as possible as it is on a screen that is persistently unlocked. Thanks Osman
Osman Posted May 23, 2024 Posted May 23, 2024 Afternoon All, This has now been resolved, and I wanted to share how it was resolved in case anyone else has the same or similar circumstance. The underlying Metrics, Widgets and Dashboards for the slideshow were all created by a member of staff no longer with our organisation. In creating them, no explicit permissions were given, therefore only certain administrative users had access. To resolve the issue, I added the Service account to an appropriate Group and granted that Group access to each of the Widgets that was in use within the Slideshow. To ensure that the user only had access to the Slideshow feature in HornBill I created a Custom Role that looks like this: It has a Privilege level of User and the Application is set to ServiceManager. The SlideShow works as expected and the service account has no other access within HornBill. @Gareth Cantrell @Alisha@Carl Tovey Hopefully this will go a little way to helping with each of your use cases. Thanks Osman 1
