Good afternoon,

Is there a way of increasing the number of characters permitted in the telephone number field when importing accounts from AD? It appears some of our users haven't been imported as there has been more than the maximum characters in the telephone field. Some of our customers have more than one extension, which is causing the problem.

Thanks,

Melissa

Hi Melissa,

The increase in the size of the telephone field will most likely be something that we would have to do.  I will start with finding out about these users not being imported and see if there is a way that these can be added despite this field not being updated.

There may also be reasons behind a particular format/size for the telephone field.  It may be to ensure a correct phone number format is used as it may be possible in the future to provide some integration to other apps.  For example Skype calling.  We can look into other standard ways of recording extension numbers.  These may fall into a separate field.

The current size of the work telephone field is 20 characters

Regards,

James

Hi James,

Thank you for your reply. A few of our users have multiple extensions, so they will exceed the 20 character limit. Other ways of recording extension numbers would solve the problem for us.

As for the users that have not been imported, I have been changing their numbers as and when they are identified by the service desk as missing. It has been difficult though, as there isn't anywhere to put that extra number.

Thanks,

Melissa

Without going into changing the underlying database there are already fields for
Phone
Mobile
WorkPhone
HomeTelephone
SocialNetworkA-H and
Attrib1-8

Could multiple extensions be squeezed into one or more of those?

Hi Melissa,

There has been a change to the size of the phone field to 64 characters so that it matches the size in AD.  This will be delivered as a platform update so keep an eye open on the upcoming release notes.
