When AD field has data that is later removed, data remains in Hornbill (LDAP)

We have various fields mapping from AD to Hornbill using the LDAP import, and finding that when we blank a field / remove the data in AD, it still remains in Hornbill.  Is there a way of ensuring it gets removed from Hornbill as well?  My import is set to "Both Create and Update".

A value of __clear__ will empty a field (see the documentation) but there isn't a setting to say "AD Attribute if populated otherwise blank the field"

You can achieve this by running an import that blanks any fields that may be cleared in this way just before the main Import, so that they are immediately replaced where appropriate.
