Unable to create widget referencing the search bar on employee portal

Has anyone successfully created a widget that has referenced the h_sm_portal_search history and search term. I have tried querying the database direct and no records are found. 

 

Can anyone advise if the search terms are written somewhere else or is there a platform setting that needs turning on to enable this?

 

Any help on this would be brilliant, thank you.

I'm not sure what you mean here - you don't create Employee Portal widgets, you select them the available widgets in the list.
