Asset defined in the capture linking to the request via the workflow

I have been developing our generic incident and request capture and part of that involves the manual selection of an asset.

If I ask the user to select the piece of software and they pick from the software asset list could it be added functionality to link that asset to the request?

This is the capture where the user selects the asset

What I would like is for a Hornbill automation to link an asset based on this variable defined in the capture, where here we have Add Customer Assets also having Link Asset

I hope this makes sense.
