Cancelling a request doesn't end workflows

I thought that when using the Cancel Request option from within a request, will end the workflow. However, it seems that the workflow itself remains suspended on awaiting whatever action it was at the time of cancelling, e.g. "Awaiting Resolution", "Awaiting Status Update"

I can see that on the resolution stage, I need to add - status.cancelled before the EndProcess node?

 

But how do I cater for any other scenarios or is our "Cancel" is not configured correctly?
