Martyn Houghton
How portable is Hornbill Live Chat? Would it be technically possible for LC to be provisioned on a separate website where the website uses a common Single Sign On provider? Is this something Hornbill are considering in the LC's road map? Cheers Martyn
Gerry
Hi Martyn, I am likely sound a bit like a scratched record here I am pretty sure that in the context of a guest user (hornbill speak) that LiveChat does rely on our session infrastructure and API's to function. Technically anything is possible of course, and, with the introduction of custom domains it would in theory be possible to run some code like the chat client as an embedable on another website, bit I am pretty sure the chat client was never designed or built with that in mind. Most of our front end code relies very heavily on our basic session infrastructure (which is libs and data structures in the browser at runtime), LiveChat client is not "stand alone" in that regard. I can see the requirement here, and its not unreasonable, I think as it stands at the moment though, LiveChat is a "feature" of the Hornbill portals, as opposed to bing a "Live Chat client" we have plugged into the Employee and Customer portals, if that makes sense. I am sure we have mentioned in internal conversations the notion of embedable components, especially around IC and LiveChat which could have a lot of value for customers who want to expand an existing website/application, especially in the context of providing external customer support services. But in truth, both IC and LiveChat clients today are features of the existing portals, and not components/functions that would stand-alone. From a roadmap perspective, I think the question is probably "are we considering making LiveChat a stand-alone application that can be embedded into other websites" and I have to be honest and say, while I would love to be able to say yes, I think the honest answer right now is no, its not on the roadmap. I will highlight the question internally to see if there are any other thoughts. Gerry
