Please could someone clarify the intended use of the Assignment-type roles in Service Manager?

The description is that they should be given to people to enable task assignment, but tasks seem to assign to people and teams perfectly well without these roles?

Some of them, like CAB Approver, seem more aimed at specific groups of people across teams, to send authorisation tasks to, but you can't assign authorisation nodes to people by role, only normal Human Tasks.

Broadly, they just seem superfluous, I'm looking to understand the intent of them.
