AlexOnTheHill Posted September 24 Posted September 24 I feel sure I have seen posts about this previously so apologies if I'm asking something that has been asked a dozen times already. Can we have the ability to filter results by date? I know this is something we can do with the advanced search but some searches from the global search return vastly more results than are worth browsing through, for example if I search for my own name in the timeline of a request to see a request I assigned in the last week I am presented with a list of 10,000 results. If I had the ability to filter by date range that would make this search much more useful. I will recommend my colleagues use the advanced search in the meantime but if the global search could have this added, many would see the benefit. Many thanks
James Ainsworth Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Hi @AlexOnTheHill Thanks for your post. I think that in past cases, the date being asked for in the Global Search has mostly been the date logged. There are several dates used on a request such as last update, scheduled date, resolution date, closure date, reopen date which have also been asked for. 13 hours ago, AlexOnTheHill said: if I search for my own name in the timeline of a request to see a request I assigned in the last week In the example above, you are trying to locate requests that you assigned in the last week based on a timeline entry. Is that correct? I don't believe that timeline searches can be done within the Advanced Search on the request list. If you are using the Timeline option in the Global Search, would the date logged help you? The Advanced search on the request list is possibly the goto place for most searches. It does offer a lot more options and keeps you in the Request List view. I'm interested to understand the preference to using the Global Search over the Advanced Request List search? Many thanks
AlexOnTheHill Posted September 25 Author Posted September 25 Hi @James Ainsworth I am very happy with the advanced search, I'm an advocate for it in the organisation, regularly showing people how make better use of it to see what they need to. I don't have a preference for the Global Search at all really but I do think that if anyone uses it they should expect to be able to find what they are looking for. Yes, a Date Logged in the Global Search allowing users to track down requests they reassigned in the last week would be brilliant! I wholly agree with the advanced search being the best place for a search, I would direct people to the advanced search in this case if I could. 1
