Adam Toms Posted August 29 Posted August 29 Hello all, I'm aware following the most recent update Service Manager 3180 the bulk upload button is now missing from the front end of the asset manager. It would be great if possible, that this feature on the front end could be allowed via a button on the front end locked down to certain individuals rather than groups. Many Thanks Adam
Steve Giller Posted August 29 Posted August 29 This has been moved to the Admin area - Users who need access will need to be the relevant roles to see that part of the Admin view(s)
Jack Stanton Posted August 30 Posted August 30 Hi Steve, This has hit our teams also and we believed necessary permissions were already in place for the team - We want to provide access to the "Upload Assets" functions as previous but without granting additional administration privileges. What role is this contained under as it doesn't seem apparent from the get-go. Many thanks.
Peter Clough Posted August 30 Posted August 30 We've done some testing on this, creating a custom role to test, with the SM application rights under asset management of: Administer Asset Management, Create Configuration Items, Delete Configuration Items, Edit Configuration Items, View Asset Audit Trail, View Asset Management, View Configuration Items, View Configuration Management. None of these permissions seem to be the ones required to see the page, and we don't want to give our users Service Desk Admin unnecessarily. 1
Adam Toms Posted August 30 Author Posted August 30 Thanks @Steve Giller I can see both sides of the coin, ultimately a bulk upload, should really be performed with someone with administrator rights. But it is handy having the button actually in the asset area front end, to allow those with relevant permissions to upload from with the asset management page, as this is where a lot of our asset management admin team spend the vast majority of the time. I get this is a UI change and will be divisive, but it would be cleaner from an authorised user point of view if it was possible to handle this via the front end Asset Management page for those individuals.
Sally Passmore Posted August 30 Posted August 30 @Steve Giller could you advise of the permissions now required to be able to upload assets into SM so that my admin team can restore my access please? Many thanks.
Jack Stanton Posted September 2 Posted September 2 @Steve Giller Hi Steve, Please can you advise on what the relevant permissions are so that we may apply accordingly?
EWA Posted September 2 Posted September 2 @Steve Giller what permission this required . All our assets are managed by Asset manager who isn't an admin, is Admin manager but not application admin. it would have been much easier to manage it through roles within the existing view. A few customers have expressed concerns about moving this action to admin portal.
Estie Posted September 3 Posted September 3 @Steve Giller Hi we also have 3 users who regularly perform bulk uploads of assets and need access to this option. I would prefer not to have to give them Admin rights to do so. Is there any further update on this please? 1
Steve Giller Posted September 3 Posted September 3 Have you considered the Asset Import Tool (which will both import new and updated assets) as an option?
Jack Stanton Posted September 3 Posted September 3 @Steve Giller Hi Steve, The Asset Import Tool isn't the functionality our team has gotten used to, whilst it has it's purpose and we do utilise it for various purposes, the bulk upload functionality has provided us with a user friendly method for all our asset and licensing team members to perform routine bulk upload activities quickly. We have no issue with applying the "relevant roles" - but without being directed as to what those "relevant roles" are, we cannot seek to apply them to our team. Please can you confirm for us all here what "roles" these sit under without providing full and unnecessary administrative access to hornbill. Thank you. 5
ArmandoDM Posted September 3 Posted September 3 The functionality, now accessible from the admin area, should work as before, i.e. 'Assets -> Tags' available to users with the following right rightD.viewAssetManagement 'Asset -> Upload Assets' available to users with the following right rightD.administerAssetManagement

We started setting up the profile and can't find where these sit. Can you confirm what the role profile needs to look like to allow this? Many thanks.
Estie Posted September 4 Posted September 4 Hi all, I have given my full users the following roles from Platform Config>Users>find the user>roles>Assign roles: I have checked with one of them and they are able to access Service Manager>Assets>Upload Assets. They do not have access to any other Service Manager admin functions. Hope that helps. This is what they see:

Hope that helps. Ditto - but still no dice unfortunately. our Asset and License Analysts already had this applied.

Is it possible for you to show the full permissions set applied on the user profile as a "model". My team have commented that they don't even get the drop-down for "Service Manager" appear for them...
ArmandoDM Posted September 4 Posted September 4 Good morning @Jack Stanton as suggested, the role Asset Management User grants the right viewAssetManagement, the role Asset Management Admin grants both viewAssetManagement and administerAssetManagement

ArmandoDM Posted September 5 Posted September 5 @Jack Stanton I will mention this for investigation and keep you updated.
Jack Stanton Posted September 10 Posted September 10 @ArmandoDM Good Morning, Any further progress on this? On A/L next week so eager for a fix, otherwise will need to provide full admin access to an individual to sort in the meantime.
ArmandoDM Posted September 12 Posted September 12 Good morning @Jack Stanton the issue has been addressed. It requires the new build of Service Manager as well as a new platform build. All we be released next week. Regards Armando
Adam Toms Posted September 12 Author Posted September 12 @ArmandoDM Thanks for replying back to this post, will the button to bulk upload return to the Assets Page if you have the relevant permissions?
ArmandoDM Posted September 12 Posted September 12 @Adam Toms if you have the relevant permission yes, you should be able to access the page Regards Armando
ArmandoDM Posted September 23 Posted September 23 Hello @Jack Stanton @Estie @Adam Toms since last Service Manager update, a user granted the role(s) Asset Management Users and/or Asset Management Admin should now be able to use the asset functionality under Admin without giving any admin role. Regards Armando
Jack Stanton Posted September 23 Posted September 23 Thanks Armando, Tested and permission sets now working as intended. 1
