Hi

Can anyone tell me the minimum fields needed to get the asset csv template to import and work?

I am trying to import an asset into the System Class. We currently have 1 asset type also called System in here so I have populated the following fields

Name

Description

operational state

Type = System

State = 0

I just cannot get it to work.

The only properties we have enabled for this asset type are as follows - so I have an entry for each field.

The Wiki article mentions the below but it does not actually tell you where this in configured as I was going to check the validation.

Where is "Select Validation" ?

The error I get is as below

Any ideas on what i am missing?

thanks

From experience this is usually that you are using an invalid data type - I see you're using operational state, this requires a number as specified in the schema that you can view under Entity Explorer in Service Desk Admin

When you select the Asset Class there is a "Validation" button where a suitable field is available.
Can I check what assets you are importing, as the "System" class is one without validation?

thanks Steve, you were correct it was the operational state that was causing the issue I was populating with 1 of the 3 states by entering the value i.e. operational not a numeric value of 0.

that has now worked.

And I can now see the validation option on some of the other Asset classes, but explains why i couldn't find it for System asset class if it doesn't do validation.

I was just trying to import a test system asset just one item to determine what fields I needed to populate should we then import a bulk list.

Was undecided on whether to use the System class or software class to populate our full list of supported systems and software? rather than trying to split them and trying to identify what is a system and what is software. from the users perspective they wouldn't often know and would just know the name of a particular thing they use.
