Double spaces in the email

When replying to an email - from an email (view email and then reply) the system put double spaces between new lines.. Is there a way to format the email?

I too notice this and find it very unhelpful. 
The system also seems to treat an incoming email used to log a call like this, and the resulting email content put in call details has so many blank lines it's difficult to read (even when the incoming email is text based with single line breaks).
