Data query dropdown - feature request

Hello all, 

In a Intelligent capture, would it be possible to implement regex restrictions into a dynamic dropdown populated by data query? So I can exclude based on the bracketed user ID. 

Context:
I want to exclude specific username formats as we've got staff, students that straddle both full and basic user types (but students always start with UP) and then contacts on top.
I don't think I have a native way to discriminate my specific subsection of full users. 

Also could you confirm if I've got this terminology right:

All users = Full users/basic users/contacts
Colleagues = Full users/basic users
Co-workers = Full users
