I regularly use Database Direct view to run SQL queries. Normally when I get the results, if I click anywhere in the output, I get a red popup at the bottom right saying something along the lines of that I cannot change the data. This is expected - I'm only reporting, not changing the data.

However since this morning, whenever I click any field in this area of the screen....

.... I get an option to edit the data

I have not changed my permissions, so can only guess there has been a general change somewhere else. Can anyone confirm?

Also, if there is a suitable role I can be in that will let me run reports BUT NOT amend the data, could someone suggest.

In any case I didn't have that before and the "database editor" heading suggested the ability to make changes

I just tried again, and its back to its original behaviour,.... I can't open that box now at all

Strange, the new box still appears for me. But good to know clicking save shouldn't actually write to the database (obviously was too afraid to try!).

I was just having a look at the Document Library, but can't seem to find more information about roles for Database Direct (i.e. the in-app section under Platform Config > Advanced Tools and Settings). The old wiki links to this page in the Hornbill Document Library, but that says it can't be found. Seems odd if it was removed from the old wiki before actually being uploaded to the new site? Hope this doesn't mean it's being removed, I use this tool on an almost daily basis.

Thanks for reporting this.  I have corrected the link on the wiki.  The removal from the wiki and the adding to the new documentation had been done at the same time, however, since then it appears the name of the new document was changed and therefore the link broken.

@CraigP - I spoke too soon, I've got it back again now.

Can anyone from Hornbill confirm whether this is a change to expected behaviour / roles? I would rather not have it, as for one thing its very annoying!

@Andrew Parsons - Our team have confirmed this will be sorted in one of the next upcoming releases and the popup will no longer be shown.
Although the option is presented to you at the moment, it will not be possible for you save the change made in any of those fields while this is being updated.
