Populating a dropdown with a list of countries

Is there a way of importing a list of countries in to a table which we can then use to populate a dynamic dropdown list?

There are lists of countries that are available within a Contact record or User account.  I'm looking to see if these are available or not to use elsewhere.

Alternatively, there is a Simple List Import Tool which can be used to import countries to a simple list which then can be used to populate a dynamic dropdown list.
