Ann
Morning All Hope you are all well. Please would it be possible to advise if there is a way to make the 'Assigned To' field within a New Task to be mandatory? Currently it is not mandatory so we are getting some tasks that are marked as undefined which allows tasks to be missed when a team is sorting by either Team or an individual. Thank you. James Ainsworth
Hi Ann, I believe that not having the "assigned to" fields as mandatory is by design, so that when planning a project ahead of time, you can build out the required tasks that are needed for the project, before you know who will be doing the tasks. This could result in situations where a user is being notified of an assigned task, before the project planning has been completed and approved. Ann
Afternoon @James Ainsworth Hope you are well. Thank you. Our reporting shows a number of project tasks that are unable to be assigned to an individual as we do not know who will be available to complete them but know which team they will be assigned to. Currently these tasks are being missed due to not being assigned to a person or a team. Is there any progress please on being able to assign a task to a team rather than an individual please? James Ainsworth
Hi Ann, I'm not aware of any plans to change how tasks are assigned. Outside of Project Manager, Hornbill Tasks do have an option to assign to a team, but this results in all team members being notified of the task, with the expectation that one of the team members respond by assigning it to themselves. There is still no guarantee that someone takes the task if it is assigned to a team. Could this be a matter of process? For example, once the unallocated tasks are in place and the project is approved, the next stage would be to have the project owner allocated the resources and assign the tasks to the appropriate people? This does presume that the project owner has confirmed the resources as part of the planning, and is already aware of available teams and users. Ann
Afternoon @James Ainsworth Thank you for the above information. It was within Project Manager that we are needing a task to be assigned to a team. We do not mind if the task is not accepted, just as long as we know which team will be carrying out the work. Our report shows the tasks that need completing in the week ahead but sometimes the project managers will know that the availability is there for a team to complete the task but not the specific team member who will complete it until much nearer the time. Thank you for your help. Kind Regards Ann
AlexTumber
@Ann thanks for your post. The ability to assign project tasks to teams is still very much on our list of things to add to project manager. Unfortunately there are no updates on this functionality at this time. As soon as there are developments I will post back to this thread.
