Creating automated tickets

I am new to Service Manager and looking for how I create automated (regular) job tickets for our 2nd and 3rd lime teams. 

I have had a look at runbooks - is this where I need to be?

So 1 maybe to check back ups have run successfully. I know I can create "activity's" but to our 2nd and 3rd line teams what its as a job ticket (service request)
Some would be daily some weekly - depending on the task.
