Change to Exported Data

Jeremy

Recommended Posts

We exported some views for data analysis but it appears that something may have changed with the way it outputs the information:

This was previously how it exported with the Categories laid out in full:

now they have changed to a single word

Has this changed with the latest update to the Service Manager where the column of Category has been added as a selection?

Hi Jeremy,

I'm not aware of anything that would have changed with the export, but I will check.

For some reason, I can't see the images that you posted.  The single category that is displayed in the request list is designed to show the last item in the category tree, but additional information should be stored in the actual table.

On a Service there is an option that lets you set the root of the category.  This allows a branch within the category structure to be used for that service.  There is also this setting below that will actually store just the branch for the service instead of the entire path.

Is it possible that someone has recently set the root category for the service and also enabled this setting?

The images were copied from a Gmail message (see the links).  Viewing this image would only work for the user that has access to that email, won't work for anyone else. Ideally in this scenario the image would be copied locally first (as an image file, not link file) then uploaded/added in the forum post.

@Jeremy It would be useful to see what data you are gathering and from where.

From the before/now screenshots it's not just the category that's changed but also the heading (from Request Category to Category) so there's some information missing there.

Also, James asked

You've confirmed that the setting hasn't changed, but has the Root Category for the Service been set?

@Steve Giller this is exporting a view and yes the heading has also changed from 'Request Category' to just 'Category' in the exported view as well as the data within

This seems to have happened since the update where it mentions -

No root categories have been set for services.

@Jeremy

That information has helped, thank you.

Previously, the "Category" column was not available on the request list, but due to popular demand it was made available on the export list.

When we made it available in the request list (again, by popular demand) we changed it to display only the final tree element to prevent it breaking.
This was also when we changed the display name to "Category" instead of "Request Category".

We're looking into whether we can provide an option for the full tree to be exported.

@Jeremy We have made a change to the process of exporting the request list. With this change, values in the "Category" column will contain the same information as before when using the old "Request Category" column.

This will be included in the next release of the Service Manager app which is likely to be available in the week commencing 10th May 2021.

We have noticed that this has been updated for the 'Category' selection but today it has been raised that the 'department; export has the long version e.g. UOP/ProfessionalServices/InformationServices/ rather than the old version of Information Services

Can this also be updated?
