Assigning assets to contacts

I want to assign assets to contacts, but the contacts do not show in the list for 'used by' and 'owner by'

 

 

how can i get contacts to appear?

I can see that i am able to search 'customers' on assets but not assign them

the properties Used By and Owned By can only be assigned to users, no contacts (see here https://wiki.hornbill.com/index.php?title=Assets)

Nonetheless you may decide to share an asset with contact (https://wiki.hornbill.com/index.php?title=Shared_Assets).

The screenshot about searching for customers, that's a Request customer not an asset customer?

no, this is not currently supported.  But if you need the list of assets used by a user, you may create a custom filter "Used by -> is -> my user" andthe list will also return the assets shared by that user.

We are looking at releasing some BPM Hornbill Automations to work with automatically updating assets from a Request.  This should be completed and available in January.

Regarding a column to show the "Shared By'', It may be that an asset, like a server is used by thousands of users.  So, having the names of the shared users in the list isn't going to be practical. I can look to see if we can included the word "shared" under the Used By column so that it is clear that it is a shared asset.  I can also see if it would then be possible to click or hover on ''shared'' to display the shared users/groups.

@James AinsworthWould it be possible to somehow back track from the contact, or organisation.
So If you go to the contact (or organisation) you can somewhere see which assets they are shareholders of.

This would help immensely to be able to determine which server a particular externa customer is using.
