Allow duplication of SLAs into a new service

Before the Database Direct enforcement to allow only SELECT scripts, we used to use an INSERT script in Database Direct to make things a lot easier when adding SLA manage rules to a new Service as we have manage rules depending on a lot of site locations and the manual creation of manage rules is a time consuming process and it's easy to make mistakes in that creation.

Is the duplication of existing SLA configuration/manage rules from an existing Service into a new Service something that can be included in a new enhancement?

+1 from us. We too have got around not having the ability to copy service and objects using INSERT statements in Database Direct.

Having the ability to copy SLA assignment and rules would be great help and lines up with our previous request for a 'Copy Service' option raised back in 2016.

Cheers

There are a number of concerns with the use of Insert within Direct Database which would probably be the reason behind removing this ability.  Hornbill is largely built using entities which are interacted with using APIs.  These entities can contain relationships with other entities.  Using APIs to create, update, and delete entities all provide important updates to related entities.  When manipulating the database using Database Direct it is possible that updating data for one entity it will not provide the needed information for the related entities.  Not using the APIs could also result in some records not being indexed.

We do have a change in our backlog that will look at options for making a copy of an SLA.  This was raised from this forum post.  I'll make sure that you are added to the change and that this post is updated with any progress to this requirement.

Regards,

James

FYI:
I'm at the moment adding a new custom field in each request type we use, for each service we have: doing the same thing manually 735 times.

Some automation in service configuration that would allow cloning/bulk copy data from one service into other services would be great.
