I have some concerns about the new anaylst portal design, and the choices made RE: spacing/colours etc.

image.png.0650826ca96c55ae945f20dc6baad3a6.png

As you can see, the questions are very pale and difficult to read as the font appears to have shrunk. There is also an issue whereby the 'description' from the previous question seems squashed on top of the next question's header thus again, making it difficult to read.

Please could I ask that this is reviewed and the spacing/colouring looked at because whilst it looks clean and modern, our analysts have voiced concerns.

Thanks

Strange, in our instance questions are black. But I agree that the fonts appear to have shrunk which renders them harder to read

I second this,  Ours have also gone gray and shrunk, and the explanations/supporting info below the question are bigger and clearer than the question itself?

image.png.92fb4510bc89e2c1f2daca772e3ee52f.png

Another problem is that the boxes don't expand with the amount of information typed, so analysts cant see what they have typed if they have typed more than the spacing allows. They have already started moaning about this.

I am finding this quite messy, its not easy to view, especially if you have explanations underneath the questions, you cant easily tell where the next question starts?

Hi All, thank you for your feedback. We are working right now to improve the new style and will be releasing soon a build or several builds to improve and extend the style.

@Daniel Dekel

Also the colours of the tiles has changed somehow (old on the left, I assume it is picking it colour from a different setting). Also is there any reason for the UI change to have skipped the CI selection pages? It seems that the colour change on the home page hasn't affected the CIs under a service.

image.png.3b83db0133d5d47f45cd93124e9be4c2.png

And the font size seems inconsistent on PCs.

image.png.f94dab3b2a1823bcb2e855bac2dc1817.png

Also if a field on a custom form has quite a bit of text it get a 'strike-through' effect...

image.png.e729eed68c78d0ccd07dffd93e9266a2.png

...until you select the field. then the font shrinks even more....

image.png.93b43d530685f2c5019f917bdf6774e6.png

...but the text is overlapped by the field question.

Also is there any reason for the UI change to have skipped the CI selection pages? It seems that the colour change on the home page hasn't effected the CIs under a service.

Finally, is there a different setting for banner image on the new portal as ours has gone missing. As it seems have the bulletins (until you select a service that has one) which is an issue.

Apologies for the seemingly huge list of issues.

The 'strike-through' issue only happens in Firefox and Chrome. IE and Edge are unaffected. Other issues are present in all browsers mentioned.

We have the same issue also, the text boxes are not showing all the information as you type when raising a request/incident.  Once the job is raised all the information is shown in the text box on the screen.  If you need to edit the description the smaller text box is back with the limited view of the information, it is making the whole process very slow especially as we have a lot of room set ups that would not be easy to read if the information was not spread out.

I'd like to +1 this.

I'm having most of the same issues.

This is a small thing, but can I just add my massive disappointment that the buttons are now ALL CAPS. It was much nicer looking previously in sentence case.

I'm experiencing much of the same feedback from my teams.

It might have been useful to provide the forum community with some screenshots in advance of the UI changes being put live for feedback.

Hi +1 from us too

We have found the same especially on some of our changes where you have a lot of text, there is no scroll bar to navigate to the end making it hard to edit.  And the very small pale font

And also don't like the caps in the buttons, but that's not such an issue

We can't use IE because the icons don't appear in our instance, so we are limited only to Firefox

We've made some fixes related to the multiline text fields.

@Dan Munns, regarding the overlapping text, the problem is that the label is too long. The intention of  a label is to be short, and then you have description to add more clarification if it makes sense?

This is not the last fix for this area, We'll keep on improving.

Thank you for your patience.

@Daniel Dekel the issue is if the question is placed in the description it shows below the field. that and the question is difficult to summarise in a couple of words to then have a longer description.

Also the changes made have just turned off wrapping of text and so the label now is cut off rather than wrapping and causing the strikethrough.

Could we a better way of showing which is a field? The text sits on the line making it confusing about where you need to click to select the field, maybe a 90 degree box where is is only a text field?.

image.png.9e2d7372f0e3d61f78112fc6f06403eb.png

Also could we change the colour of the line which denotes the field to a different colour other than grey as well? It actually looks like it is a line break in some places rather than a place to type. Maybe the blue it currently changes to when selected and then bolden the line when it is actually selected.

(Substantiation being a field in this example)

All, I just wanted to mention that we are trying to follow the design guidelines from Material Design by Google, in the case of field text there is a specific behavior where the field label is shown as text (normally greyed) in the field when it is empty.  As soon as you start typing (or the field has content in it) then the label gets smaller and moves upwards - the rationale is its efficient from a screen real estate point of view but always remains clear what the data is.  The reduced size label is reflecting the fact that the data in the field is more important.  We will need to look at our choice of font size and color, but for those interested, you can see the documentation around this subject in the link below,

https://material.io/design/components/text-fields.html#anatomy

We will of course address any outstanding issues as our highest priority.  Thank you all for the feedback.

Experiencing the same issues as everybody else.

The spacing, font size and validation indicator position are really unsettling at the moment... For some reason, it makes the screen a lot more confusing. I have to admit, the UI changes deployed so far have not been particularly well received in my organisation. Partly because of a lack of communication on our side, partly because of the change (people don't like change in general) and partly because of all the minor issues mentioned above.

Whilst I have made some changes to this form to make it look a little better (@Daniel Dekel the label thing was right, it looks better this way as well), could we have a simple way of showing this is a text field. Similar to the material design documentation that is floating around. Adding a 'box' to each field takes up zero real estate and makes it a lot easier to see where you are supposed to type (most of my user base don't use the tab key and will click around with a mouse until something happens)

Again, apologies for the lack of paint skillz (with a 'z' as I am down with the kids)

As this next image, the substantiation is an field however, even some of the Marketing team thought it was a section break. As it is not mandatory (though useful) it kind of gets overlooked.

I do like the material design principles and I think I will be changing our portal (forms and all) to try and reflect more of that so I am looking forward to seeing the route this all takes (an awesome one I am sure). Also having been asked by @Gerry during the panel discussion on ESM (maybe Unified Service Management - USM would be a better description?) if our portal was 'IT Speak' or not, I have picked up a few places to improve it so as well as everything else this has kicked me in the pants to makes some improvements.

Hi @Dan Munns, thanks for your feedback. I do understand the importance and the changes that you did look better.

I like mock-up you made with the background colour in the fields. We'll look at that as that still fits the the Material Design guide ;-)

We also made improvements around the font sizes and height between fields. These will get shipped in our next build.

I think I've mentioned before, but the current portals (service and customer) are not affected by the new style changes, only the Collaboration Core (User App).

So, again, keep on sending feedback and we'll keep on improving.

Thank you for  your patience.

Daniel.
