enhancement Add serial number to the general information section of assets in asset manager

Hi,

It would be useful to have a general 'Serial Number' field in the 'General Information' field for general assets. 

Assets which may not fall under the current serialised types (computers, computer peripheral etc) or have a network property currently do not have the option to add a serial number.

the Serial Number is in every asset class except General and Software.

If I understand well, would you like the Serial Number in the section 'General Asset Information' for assets with class General  ?

We use the General asset class for things like backup tapes / UPS batteries etc which are serialised.

Ideally I would like a serial number field for all asset classes under General Asset Information which would remove the reason for this:

It would be perferrable that we add the classes  you need rather than extend the base general type - no all asset types would have a serial number so having the field their is sub-optimal from a design perspective.  Hardware generally does have an SN so perhaos we create a "General Hardware" asset class for this purpose?

@Gerry a 'General Hardware' class would be fine. If we could also have the merging report columns linked above added then all my needs would be met
