Adding Rooms as CI/Assets

We are new to Service Manager (3rd day of implementation!), I was wondering if anyone has added Rooms as CI or assets so that scheduled tasks can be run against them?

For example, we would like to set up scheduled tasks so that are AV teams check rooms on a regular basis with Projectors, DVD Players and PC's associated with the rooms. Is this something that anyone has done?

Also, we would like another asset class added of Rooms, but it is our understanding that we cannot add our own Asset Categories?
