yelyah.nodrog Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 Can someone please explain to me why this is considered an appropriate emoji on a work platform? and this is just the worst one.... is there a way to turn the emoji option off.
Gerry Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 Hi Hayley, It is certainly not considered an appropriate emoji to "use" at work. I was not specifically added, I think its present because its part of an open emoji icon set/library we use so I will need to have someone investigate weather or not this can be removed/disables, I expect it probably can. yelyah.nodrog Posted November 2, 2017 Author Posted November 2, 2017 mmmh yes please because even better its currently being promoted as the "Daily Emoji"
Gerry Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 Its interesting looking at this, it would seem that most all platforms support this, its actually a valid approved unicode characterhttps://emojipedia.org/reversed-hand-with-middle-finger-extended/ The daily emjoji selection is just random but its somewhat unfortunate selection Gerry 1
JanS2000 Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 Hi @Gerry, just coming back to this as it's been flagged up by a member of staff as it's still available. Does this mean it couldn't be removed? If so, is there any way we can turn off the use of emojis in our instance?
martin.brown Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 This is still present today 1st July 2024 - can this emoji please be removed?
Gerry Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 @martin.brown Et'al, Unfortunately, literally any application that runs in a browser or on the desktop supports unicode and this middle-finger emoji ( https://emojipedia.org/middle-finger ) is part of the standard unicode character set approved in 2014 in the Unicode standard. This is is not something that we have chosen to include, in fact its not even shipped as part of our software, this will render from most font libraries installed on peoples computers. By way of a demonstration, here is an example of me typing in that unicode character on your website. You will also find pretty much any application supports these icons. The second image is me typing the search for "finger" in skype, thats from Microsoft, and not even Microsoft are taking the position of removing unicode characters that some deem offensive. There is no standard way to remove specific Unicode characters from use, even if we removed it from the emoji search (which I am not sure we can even do to be honest), anyone that decides they want to send the emojo can easily type in the unicode char or, simply paste it from another app as I did in your web site example.
