Cancel button on Portal forms

hello

In the Service Portal,  if I choose a catalogue item by going through My Services, choose a Service then choose a Catalogue item, the questions form opens in the same page so, if I then choose to use the Cancel button the form goes back to the list of available Catalogue items.

If, however, I do a search from the My Services page, then choose a Catalogue Item from the available list, it opens the questions form in a new tab. If I THEN decide to use the Cancel button it just takes me back to the beginning of that question form. 

I realise that I can close the tab, or I can use the breadcrumbs to get to where I need to go, but our users have asked if the cancel button in this instance can close the tab and take them back to where they started )i.e. the search results page)

I'm pretty sure this can't be done, but I said I'll ask the question anyway...so, could the Cancel button be set to do something different depending on how the users got to the questions form please?
